Together for Communities

 

In 2012 Holcim Lebanon celebrated Holcim Group centennial through a global initiative under the name “Together for Communities”. The aim was to engage employees to work one day for the community, volunteering for a good cause in the name of Holcim. Around 200 employee volunteers and family members from Holcim Lebanon dedicated a total of 888 hours. Eight activities were organized in partnership with NGOs and included a baking day on the occasion of Mother’s Day to support underprivileged families, tree plantation, beach cleaning as part of the National Big Blue Campaign, spending a day with elderly, youths-related workshops on job preparedness and coaching skills, river cleaning in Joz area and an excursion with children of SOS village.

 

Celebrating Mother's Day - March 21st

As a present for mothers from the local communities, female staff and employee wives at Holcim Lebanon took time out on March 19 and 20 to prepare and package sweets as gifts. The project was carried out in conjunction with a local NGO and the Lebanese Institute of Management and Services (IMS). IMS offers educational programs for young women in the areas of business and tourism services, with a focus on micro-business. The sweets were distributed on March 21, on the occasion of Mothers’ Day.

Tree planting in the village of Ijdabra- March 26

As part of a private initiative aiming to plant trees throughout the Northern part of Lebanon, on March 26 Holcim employees planted over 100 trees in the village of Ijdabra. The activity was done in partnership with the municipality and a local NGO, both of whom greatly appreciated the effort.

Big Blue Day - May 20

On May 20, employees from Holcim Lebanon got togetherto clean the beach at Hery, near the Holcim plant. They were joined by family members as well as participants from a local school and the municipality. The project ran under the name of "Big Blue Day", a national campaign to clean up the Lebanese coast and underwater, organized by Operation Big Blue Association (OBBA).

Job preparedness workshop to youths - June 6

A group of enthusiastic and engaged young people enjoyed an informative workshop about job hunting and proper interviewee’s behavior. The workshop, organized by Holcim HR department, was conducted on June 6 in partnership with the NGO Aie Serve as part of a youth empowerment program.

Workshop on coaching skills - June 23

On June 23, a group of committed young people participated in a workshop organized by Holcim HR department in partnership with the NGO “Aie Serve”. The workshop under the title coaching skills, introduced the basics of coaching. It aimed to teach participants how to use coaching principles to unlock people’s potential in their environment and maximize their efficiency in their personal and professional life.

River cleaning in Kaftoun - July 6

On July 6 and in partnership with the NGO “Operation Big Blue”, a group of volunteers dedicated a full day to clean the river Joz situated in Kaftoun. With lots of passion and commitment, volunteers, equipped with water resistant boots, gloves and nets, worked in teams to clean the river and its surroundings while discovering the natural environment and enjoying its beauty.

Excursion with children of SOS - August 10

On Friday, August 10, volunteers spent an unforgettable day with SOS children of Kfarhay. Children spent their time playing and having fun with Holcim volunteers in Ehden. This activity established a strong relationship between children and the volunteers. It was a memorable day for everyone filled with emotional and beautiful moments.

Taking the responsibility for a cleaner environment - November 27

On November 27, employees, workers and managers joined hands to clean the area around the plant. Volunteers enthusiastically spent Tuesday morning  by picking up trash and making the area a better environment. The cleanup activity is part of Holcim volunteering activities to celebrate the centennial and aims to introduce a  mindset of having a cleaner environment and a better community. Through this activity, volunteers aim to make a difference by dedicating their time to beautify the surrounding environment.
