Holcim supports an international mission to assess the structural integrity of Beirut Silos.
In the absence of local expertise and the unavailability of specialized equipment, Holcim supported international structural engineer, Mr. Emmanuelle Durand, in his mission to assess the structural safety of the Beirut Silos.
The devastating explosion that ripped Beirut on August 4 2020 destroyed thousands of buildings and structures in the capital city and caused hundreds of casualties and thousands of injuries. Only the Beirut grain silos remain standing as a witness to the magnitude of the massive explosion.
The need for structural assessment of the port silos is imminent in order to evaluate the hazards related to the damage and the risk of a potential collapse. In the absence of expertise in silos structure in Lebanon and the unavailability of specialized equipment, Emmanuelle Durand, international silos structural engineer, was on a mission to assess the structural safety of the Beirut silos.
Holcim collaborated with the expert by putting pertinent expertise and technical tools at his disposal. Holcim’s contribution materialized in conducting site measurements and analysis in the vicinity of the structure.
We are proud to support communities to overcome their challenges following the Beirut blast. Being a responsible company, we remain committed to achieve a positive impact for people and communities where we operate.
